Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka is an American-British sitarist and musician. She was awarded the British House of Commons' Shield as the youngest, and first female recipient. In addition to receiving nine Grammy nominations, she was also the first Indian-born musician to be a presenter and performer in the live ceremony. Anoushka is a emerging star of Indian sitar. She is a student and child of Ravi Shankar. Born in 1982, she was raised in London. Her childhood years were split in London as well as New Delhi. In New Delhi, she made her debut at just thirteen years of age. Then she relocated to Encinitas CA where she graduated from High School with honours in 1999. The career of Anouskha as a performer and recorder is remarkable, even at her age. She often joins her father in performances this she's been doing for a number of years. Her debut solo album, Anourag, was released in 1998. The album was released in 2002. her Grammy award-winning album Live At Carnegie Hall. As she's appeared on many of the biggest stages around all over the globe, her career on stage has been extensive. Anoushka Shakar's talents are not just limited to music. She released Bapi, the Heart of My Life, in 2002. It is a biographical work that is a tribute to her dad Ravi Shankar. The year 2003 saw her starred on Dance Like a Man as a Bharat Natyam performer. Anoushka's career is still developing and she'll continue to do many great things in the near future. Anoushka Shankar is a British born musician who spent her early years between London, Delhi and California. When she was nine years old, she began her studies in music under her father. She made her debut with the sitar four years later during his 75th birthday celebration in Delhi. Alongside her father, he toured the world Anoushka had a wealth of experience performing in Carnegie Hall while still in her teens, performing in Peter Gabriel's WOMAD festival and recording with George Harrison. She was the youngest and only female recipient of the House of Commons Shield awarded by British Parliament for her talent and musical ability as an outstanding musician from music in Asian Arts.
